I prepare this crockpot lemon chicken recipe with a simple Asian Mandarin Salad when my budget allows.
If your budget calls for a $5 family meal then simply add some steamed white rice and a can of cooked green beans instead.
Crockpot Lemon Chicken

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 7-9 hours low or 4-5 hours high
Meal Preparation Ingredients:
- 1 pkg whole chicken cut up (buying your chicken like this is very cheap)
- 1/4 cup of flour
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 Tbsp. oil
- 1 (6oz.) can lemonade, thawed and undiluted
- 3 tbsp. brown sugar
- 1 tbsp vinegar
- 1/4 c catsup
Meal Preparation Directions:
- Combine flour and salt and coat chicken.
- Brown on all sides in hot oil.
- Place browned chicken in crockpot.
- Combine lemonade, vinegar, catsup and brown sugar, mix well and pour over chicken.
- Cook on low 6-8 hours or high 3-4 hours.
Meal Assembly:
Serves 4-6. Add a Asian Mandarin Salad(click for recipe) and dinner is complete.
TIP: To stay under the $5 family meal prepare a side of white rice and canned vegetable from the pantry instead.

We just tried this recipe today.. not sure what went wrong, but it did not come out well AT ALL. Very bitter and not salvageable. Waste of a perfectly good chicken. Several other recipes on this site are ok but not this one. Just a heads-up to those who attempt it.. maybe more sugar is needed..? And no vinegar?
